Evita Emerges

Finnish beauty and well-being magazine Evita makes its debut in September 2009.

Finland's Bonnier Publications announces the launch of Evita, a new magazine for beauty and well-being.  Evita comes hot on the heels of the success of fashion glossy Olivia, launched two years ago, and interior design title Divaani, launched last year.

Evita has been created for women 35 and older who want to have optimal vitality.  The Evita woman wants to feel good while she looks good.  These quality-of-life oriented women also:

BOLOGNA, ITALY—Des Higgins will be leaving his position as CEO of Bonnier Publishing at the end of March after a 6 year involvement with the group.

"I have very much enjoyed my time with Bonnier, but after a number of years as CEO, it was time for a fresh challenge," said Des.

Inner Beauty

Sköna Hem, Sweden's leading interior decoration magazine, turns 30.

Sköna Hem is one of Sweden's oldest interior decorating magazines. The magazine started in 1979, and has a circulation of 92,600 (TS Full Year 2008), with 430,000 readers total (Orvesto Consumer Full Year 2008). Last Thursday, they celebrated their 30th anniversary at Le Bon Palais in Stockholm, with 250 invited guests - a mix of editorial staff, advertisers, freelancers, old employees, decorators, designers and other professionals.

Field & Stream, Popular Science, Saveur, and Parenting.com nominated for 2009 ASME Awards.

Four Bonnier Corp. brands have been honored with nominations for the 2009 National Magazine Awards. The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) announced the finalists for the Ellies, named after the Alexander Calder stabile Elephant.  Many consider the Ellies the magazine industry's highest honor. 

Bonnier Corp.'s Popular Science and Field & Stream are both finalists in the General Excellence category for magazines with a circulation of 1 million to 2 million.

And the Winners Are...

The 2008 Bonnier Sales Awards honor "the best of the best" with over 30,000 Euros in prizes.

On Friday evening, March 6, Bonnier invited a crowd of 150 of their sales staff to celebrate their peers' accomplishments at this year's Bonnier Sales Awards.  The ceremony took place at Stockholm City Hall's Golden Hall.  Men and women from eight countries were resplendent in dark suits and sequins, hair neatly combed or cascading in curls.  

 "I was very nervous in the midst of January that we would not receive enough nominations.  But we got more than 70 solid nominations," Senior Vice President of Bonnier Broadcasting and Bonnier Entertainment Jonas

The Web site's Child Health Guide grabs the Best Web-Only Tool Award of 2008.

Bonnier Corporation's Parenting.com has won a 2008 Magazine Publishers of America Digital Award for Best Web-Only Tool! 

"Getting recognized in three categories—first place for Best Web Tool,  runner up for Best Website - Lifestyles, and third place for Best Community—is extremely gratifying. Especially given the competition!" says Parenting.com Director Rachel Fishman Feddersen. 

Engagement Mania!

Bonnier magazine Queen and evening newspaper Expressen get the scoop on the royal engagement.

It's the biggest story of the year in Sweden—Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling are engaged! Two Bonnier publications perked up at the news: Expressen, who got the first scoop, and the royalty-themed magazine Queen.

Expressen has a long history of royal news. In 1960, the newspaper refrained from publishing a story about Princesses Birgitta and Désirée in Marstrand on the grounds that the paper "does not write about fluff." Times change, though, and Expressen has changed with them.
