Hockey Season Set for Canal+ Finland

Hockey Friday hits CANAL+ in Finalnd again in November, with new commentators and experts.

CANAL+ has launched its broadcast coverage and commentator line-up for the upcoming season.

TV Channels Sub, TV4 and Canal+ Win PromaxBDA Awards

PromaxBDA, the international marketing, promotion and design organization for broadcast professionals, has announced its annual award winners for 2011. The awards are among the most important for the industry.

Two New Channels from CANAL+

CANAL+ Family and CANAL+ Emotion to start broadcasting June 1.

Starting June 1, TV subscribers will be able to watch two new channels: CANAL+ Family and CANAL+ Emotion. At Family (read more here), will show the prize-winning BBC series, family films and more. Emotion, which will broadcast everything from film dramas to romantic comedies, is "the film channel that will arouse all kinds of feelings" according to a press release.

Canal+ Invests in 3D

Canal+ first in Sweden with its broadcast of the All-Sweden matches in 3D - and more games are planned for the future.

Pay TV network Canal+ has gone 3D. Starting April 4, the seasons first All-Sweden Stockholm Derby between teams DIF and AIK was broadcast. It marked the first time 3D was shown both on broadcast and cable TV in Sweden. For Canal+ it was a matter of growing interest from the market.

"More and more consumers and distributors were showing an interest in 3D," says Johan Kleberg, CEO for Canal+. "At the same time, there are more TV sets sold with 3D.

Canal+ to Launch Children's Channel

The new channel will broadcast the BBC's prizewinning kid's concept Cbeebies and family films daily.

Starting in June, Swedish, Norweigna and Danish subscribers to Canal+ can watch children's and family programming on a new channel. Not yet named, the new channel will feature programming from the British BBC's prizewinning children's concept CBeebies and child-friendly feature films.

"Canal+ has a lot to offer most viewers whether their preference is films, sports or TV-series," says Johan Kleberg, CEO for Canal+.

Local presence strengthened with new country leaders for Canal+ in Sweden and Norway.

Current COO for Canal+ Johan Kleberg will become the new CEO for C More Entertainment/Canal+ when current CEO Jonas Eriksson returns to Bonnier Broadcasting & Entertainment as vice president.

Boardwalk Empire Hits the Nordics on Canal+

Subscribers to Canal+ will soon be watching Boardwalk Empire, the latest hit series from HBO in the U.S.

The days of gangsters and bootleg whisky in 1920s Atlantic City, New Jersey are returning to the Nordic countries. But only for subscribers to TV channel Canal+ , which will be premiering the new U.S. series Boardwalk Empire on November 1. Starring Steve Buscemi as shady politician Enoch Thompson, the U.S. premiere had the highest rating for an HBO series since the debut of Deadwood in 2005.

TV4 Gets New Licenses for HDTV

Viewers will soon be able to get TV4 HD, Canal+ Series and a new Canal+ channel with sports, film and series.

The Swedish Radio and TV authority has given out HD licenses and two Bonnier companies have been recipients. Swedish TV4 AB has gotten a license for TV4 HD and C More Entertainment/Canal+ licenses for a new HD channel for sports, films and series, as well as for the existing Canal+ Series channel.

Many Golden Globe nominations for CANAL+

This year's Golden Globe nominations have just been announced in the U.S. and several CANAL+ series are among the nominees.

Three of the channel's hit series are competing for the statuette for best drama series: True Blood, House and Big Love. The popular series Entourage and 30 Rock are among the nominees for best comedy series. Hugh "House" Laurie and Bill Paxton from Big Love can get the price for best actor and Anna Paquin may have a Golden Globe for her performance in True Blood.
