Mag+ at Apple's Newsstand

Mag+ magazines at launch of Apple's new Newsstand.

Yesterday, Apple launched its Newsstand, a tailored hub for digital periodicals similar to iBooks, but for magazines and newspapers. Among the magazines available were a dozen titles that use the Mag+ platform. The Newsstand offers publishers a market for their magazines distinct from the rest of the App Store and gives readers a simpler way to shop for and manage their magazine apps.

Among the Mag+ titles there at launch were Popular Science+, Popular Photography+, Outside+, and Maxim+.

New Digital Magazine and Imprint from Bonnier Magazines

Bonnier Magazines launches C Mode – a new fashion weekly for tablets.

On June 12, Bonnier Magazines launched its first digital-only weekly magazine - C Mode. The new magazine provides a fast and up-to-date review of the fashion world while giving readers the opportunity to shop whenever and wherever they are. It is based on the blog of Swedish fashion blogger Caroline Blomst, who has a large, international and fashion-savvy audience.

App for U.S. Open of Surfing

TransWorld SURF has two new apps for the iPad.

This year's Nike U.S. Open of Surfing event is expected to bring in over 500,000 spectators, showcasing the best in surf, skate, BMX, music, fashion and art from July 30 to Aug. 7 in Huntington Beach, California. And in a first, iPad users now have their own exclusive app for the event, the Nike U.S. Open of Surfing Official Program application, from TransWorld SURF.

TransWorld SURF produced the event's program, providing over 30 pages of schedules and information, that will be distributed onsite.

Allt om Mat Released on Mag+

Allt om Mat is now available on the Mag+ platform for tablet computers. Allt om Mat+ is a digital weekly magazine focused on recipes from the print and web magazines.

"It's exciting that we can offer our readers more possibilities for reading Allt om Mat," says Editor-in-Chief Katrin Alström. "Tablet computers are gaining in Sweden and we hope to reach new target audiences by simply being where the readers need us.

Popular Science+ Pulls in New Readers

Some 95 percent of iPad readers for Popular Science+ have not subscribed to the print magazine.

Subscriptions on the iPad for Popular Photography

Popular Photography+ has become the second title from Bonnier Corporation to be available for subscription on the iPad. Bonnier was one of the first publishers to take advantage of Apple's new subscription service when it launched last February, bringing annual subscriptions to Popular Science.

Russian food magazine Gastronom has made magazine history: It's the first magazine to break the top ten list of applications at Apple's App Store in Russia. The iPad version of the magazine, which was launched on Jan. 31, was downloaded 4, 800 times in the first five days.
