Life At Bonnier - Gabrielle Green

Gabrielle Green: Design in Stockholm

Our GROW ambassador book designer in Stockholm appreciates Swedish design and explores graphic textiles at the flagship IKEA

Design is what I am here for and design is the topic of the day. In my opinion, I think it is a fact that the Swedes are stylish. If I haven't shown this in the example of the office environment, let me try again with a discussion of the books at Bonnier Fakta, the designers I have discovered throughout this city and the beautiful things I have found, love, and really wish I could bring home with me. Here are a few examples.

All cities like Stockholm should have a typeface designed especially for their train network. Helvetica does not have to be the universal option.

Gabrielle Green: Eating Like Swedes

GROW's Gabrielle Green enjoys Swedish meal times, especially fika, even though they cut into her workflow

On the eve of Midsummer, whilst conceptualising new designs for the revised Bonnier cookbook, I have decided to use this blog to discuss food. In particular Swedish food vs. Australian cuisine and how this defines the working culture.

My first adaptation to working life at Bonnier Fakta is the new meal times.  Firstly, the breakfast Bonnier Fakta share every Monday sees pairs of employees in charge of gathering ingredients, preparing food and coffee. I haven't seen such great teamwork since school camp.

Workplace Wonder

GROW's Gabrielle Green admires her new office at Stockholm's Bonnierförlagen

I am beginning this week's piece discussing the differences between my Swedish and Australian positions. I feel the most striking difference, a must to begin with, is the building I work in (circa 1880s).

Bonnierförlagen is a much larger organization than Weldon Owen, with maybe 300 employees to Weldon Owen's 20. I should have expected larger premises. What I didn't expect was such grand premises.

Meet Gabrielle Green

From Sydney to Stockholm: our GROW ambassador thinks that Google translate will be her best workmate

Hello and welcome to my first GROW blog. My name is Gabrielle Green. I am a 34 year-old graphic designer who usually works for Weldon Owen in Sydney.

At Weldon Owen (WO), I work exclusively in book design. Weldon Owen creates illustrated reference books geared towards children and family.  Some common subjects would be dinosaurs, volcanoes, trees, insects and spiders, animals, birds, weather and sea.
