Life At Bonnier - Patricia Schmid

Patricia Schmid: Top 5s

Our Floridian GROW blogger picks her five best...

This is my last blog and it is nearly time to say goodbye to Bonnier Corporation and Florida. I decided to end the blog with »Pick your 5«, although I never use this on Facebook.

The three months have passed really quickly, but they were simply inspiring.

Patricia Schmid: Celebrating Independence in Winter Park

GROW ambassador Patricia Schmid enjoys the important national American holiday, 4th of July, and learns that her assumptions about Americans were incorrect

The last two weeks busily went by with working on SEO suggestions for some magazine websites. I also started to do the monthly web reports for the publishers, which I have done for some of the magazines every month now.

Last week was also a short week. Due to the Independence Day celebrations, we had the 3rd of July off as well. I felt very lucky that I was able to be here during such an important public holiday.

After Memorial Day, it is my second public holiday here.

Patricia Schmid: Hot Enough

GROW's Patricia enjoys Florida's natural wonders

I finally got to see manatees in the wild, as well as dolphins and alligators. I was able to take a few days off last week and to travel around a little bit. This was really great - especially because we are having one of the hottest Junes in Florida in years. I never thought I would say this, but it is sometimes even too hot in the shade. The only thing you can do then is to go inside and enjoy the air conditioning.

Scrum Stories

GROW's Patricia Schmid learns how to "scrum", Orlando style

Today, I want to write a little bit about how interactive development work is organized at Bonnier Corporation. At university, Business Information and Project Management was one of the classes I liked most, so how things are structured and how you are able to have more transparency at work is something which really fascinates me.

Bonnier Corporation restructured its interactive development project management process for the websites earlier this year using Scrum.

The Heat Is On

Patricia Schmid explores life in Florida, weathering tornadoes and hiding from the humidity

I used my first days at Bonnier Corporation to take a closer look at all the different software tools. It also took me a while to get accustomed to the air conditioning system—I always have a scarf with me, I get easily cold sometimes. Last week we also had a lot of heavy rainfalls (over 20 inches) and a warning for tornados. Nevertheless, I was able to explore the city of Winter Park.  There is even a small beach at a lake a 15-minute walk away, but I am still not sure whether I will go for a swim or not.

Meet Patricia Schmid

From Germany to Florida: our GROW ambassador says everything in the U.S. really is bigger

Hi! My name is Patricia Schmid. Actually I come from Austria, but a job offer at arsEdition, one of the biggest publishing houses of children's and gift books in Germany, made me move to Munich, Germany a few years ago. This time, my journey took a bit longer to my new working place for the next three months. I am with Bonnier Corporation in Florida as a part of the Audience Development Team.

In Munich, I am responsible not only for the web activities of arsEdition, but I also take care of the marketing campaigns we offer to the resellers and for the fairs we are visiting.
