Thousands of women and men will participate in Rosa Steget, a Pink walk that is being organized for the third year in a row as part of the Göteborg cultural festival Göteborgskalaset, for the benefit of the breast cancer fund Bröstcancerfonden. Participants wearing pink T-shirts walk seven kilometers through central Göteborg. Registration fees go to BRO, the Swedish Breast Cancer Association.
The Bonnier Tidskrifter magazines amelia, tara and M-magasin have been Rosa Steget partners since its inception in 2008. But the magazines' fight against breast cancer goes back farther than that:
"Amelia started the Pink Ribbon campaign in Sweden in 2001. Rosa Steget is a way of continuing to build breast cancer awareness," says Amelia Adamo.
Ann Fredlund is the editor-in-chief of tara and publisher for the Bonnier Tidskrifter magazine area Women's Lifestyle. She and the other two editors-in-chief, Åsa Lundegård (amelia) and Amelia Adamo (M-magasin) will be on site during the event.
"It is fun, and it feels important to do something more than just write about breast cancer during Pink Ribbon month. We have a tent where we can meet participants before and after the walk. And we will be on stage before the walk and raffle magazine subscriptions. We assist the organizers with outreach by writing about the walk and encouraging our readers to attend. We also follow up with pictures afterward on the web and in our magazines," says Ann.
"Doing something together with thousands of women, like walking around Göteborg, adds an extra dimension. And Rosa Steget is a wonderful community festival. Thousands of women moving like a sea of pink through Göteborg. The last time I was there, the atmosphere was glorious!"
