Bonnier Tidskrifter's Misstänkt Discontinued

The final issue of crime magazine Misstänkt (suspected) will be No. 4, 2011. Daniel Frodin explains.

After three years, Bonnier Tidskrifter's magazine Misstänkt (suspected) will be discontinued. The final issue will be No. 4, 2011. Misstänkt focused most on Swedish crimes and legal cases, but also had articles on police methods, research, opinion pieces, panels of experts and personal profiles of victims and criminals. It was difficult to attract advertisers and readers in numbers that had been expected, says Daniel Frodin, publisher for Bonnier Tidskrifter's Technology & Special business area.

"Everyone agreed that the quality of journalism was extremely high in Misstänkt," says Frodin. "The problem was finding readers - the target group was so extremely spread out. Men and women, countryside and big cities, with completely different education levels and interests. In short, it was difficult to find subscribers and those who did subscribe were incredibly enthusiastic, but unfortunately they were all too few."

Nonetheless, Frodin says that the magazine had a good run.

"As a project, Misstänkt was successful," says Frodin. "Our idea from the beginning was that the subject area had potential for crossing over Scandinavian borders, which ended up not being the case. But when we look on the project as a whole, it provided development, was a learning experience and was cost-effective. Exactly what you hope for in the final analysis of a project that didn't quite meet the success criteria for further investment."

All the permanent employees who currently work with Misstänkt will be offered new jobs within Bonnier Tidskrifter.
