Brave Saleswoman

Julia Söderman - formerly Forsberg - on bravery, choosing your boss and having your niche.

Hello Julia Forsberg Söderman, Rookie of the Year for Bonnier Sales Awards 2010!

Some time has passed since you won. But how did your colleagues react when you arrived back at the office at Bonnier Publications after your victory? And why do you think you won?

Everyone was incredibly kind and appreciative and I saw what an honor it was to win. And my winning had everything to do with my boss, Helena Taube-.Rehnmark, and my colleagues Annika Tönurist and Micke Sjögren, who let me grow and start on the job in an extremely motivational and fun way. I'm extremely grateful for that!

VWhat are you most proud about with your job, at the moment and during 2011?

That we've performed well together in our small working group. We have made a mark on the market with small resources and we've used our contact network to the full.

What are your best tips for winning the Bonnier Sales Awards?

Choose your own boss! There is nothing more important or motivating than a good boss and I really have that in Helena Taube-Rehnmark. And for the newcomer of the year it also means starting out in the right way and being allowed to be yourself and take on as much as you can handle, but of course in a humble way.

Can you talk about what's in the near future for you and your team? And what are you working on right now?

Right now we're working on a new road show that we'll be taking to all our customers and media agencies. And we're looking at new sales goals.

What is the biggest challenge for the Swedish magazine market at the moment?

Not to drown in an ocean of offers. We need to point out our niche in order not to be one among many, while at the same time we don't want to be too small either.

What are looking forward to during the rest of 2011?

Meeting our goals and marking our spot on the digital map.

In the photo we see you explaining the bravest thing you've done at the recent Bonnier GRID11 conference. What was that?

It wasn't especially brave but more foolhardy, I just followed my instincts. But it was about stopping a thief, pushing him down and held him to the ground until the police arrived. Expressen actually wrote a short news item on it - ha ha!
