Readers in Norway who are ready to make the switch to digital books have just gotten a boost: online e-book retailer Digitalbok.no has launched a digital bookstore for an e-reader. The e-reader Bookeen is available from Digitalbok.no for NOK 1,899, complete with the bookstore loaded and a free copy of Torgrim Eggen's bestselling Trynefaktoren (the snout factor) during the launch period. At the bookstore, e-books will be available for purchase with a click and can be downloaded in 60 seconds.
"We've created a solution that many e-book readers have asked for and that will help more take advantage of e-book technology," says Øisten Wahl, managing director for Cappelen Damm's book clubs and Digitalbok.no, which Cappelen Damm launched in 2007. Digitalbok.no currently offers 500 Norwegian titles and 58,000 Englsh titles. When the bookstore on the e-reader launches on April 1, additional Norwegian titles will be available. There, e-books can be purchased with a click and downloaded in 60 seconds.
The e-reader offers Wi-Fi, a touch screen and enough capacity for 2,000 books with the possibility to expand to 8,000. Books downloaded will also be available on the customer's PC, providing a secure archive.
