Gabriel, Carlsen and Cappelen Damm Win Children's Literature Prize

Bonnier book publishing houses wins three of four categories in the prestigious Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis 2010: non-fiction, picture book and children's book.

Gabriel Verlag (an imprint of Thienemann) and Carlsen Verlag in Germany and Norway's Cappelen Damm won prizes in this year's Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis 2010.

In the non-fiction category, Gabriel Verlag's book Mutige Menschen – Widerstand im Dritten Reich (Brave people - resistance during the Third Reich) by Christian Nürnberger.

Carlsen's book Meine Mutter ist in Amerika und hat Buffalo Bill getroffen (My mother is in America and met Buffalo Bill) by Jean Regnaud och Émile Bravo won in the children's book category.

Cappelen Damm's Garmanns sommer (Garmann's summer) by Stian Hole won in the picture book category.

The awards are a coup for Bonnier this year, with three of the four categories awarded to Bonnier companies. The prize has been given out since 1956 and is the only one of its kind in Germany. The organization Arbetskreis für Jugendliteratur eV (the Association for Children's and Youth Literature) sponsors the award, which is given out during the Frankfurt Book Fair.
