Meet Alex Pedersen

Alex Pedersen trades Copenhagen for Winter Park, where his co-workers go waterskiing at lunch.

The heat and humidity of Florida may be extreme for some, but for Alex Pedersen of Copenhagen, it's been anything but daunting. "This doesn't even come close to the weather in Denmark, and I absolutely love it!" Pedersen says.

Pedersen is spending three months at Bonnier Corporation in Winter park, working as a marketing project manager, helping decide on a new cause marketing campaign. Which is a change from his job at Bonnier Publications, where he is a product manager in the spin-off department. "The marketing department here in Winter Park is more focused on partnerships and, for instance, creating media kits and proposals, whereas the marketing department in Copenhagen focuses more on the consumer marketing aspect," he says.

The cubicles and individual offices of Bonnier Corporation are also a big change from the open landscape in the Copenhagen office. "It is very quiet here compared to back home," Pedersen says. But a quieter office doesn't mean less contact with people. "My new colleagues have been so welcoming that it is hard not to feel right at home immediately," he says. "There has been no shortage of invitations to various activities. I'm not only meeting new colleagues, but gaining new friends, too. And people go waterskiing on their lunch break! How amazing is that?"

Pedersen says that not only is learning new things at the office, but during his free time, he's taking advantage of all that Florida has to offer, from "going to the beach, the numerous theme parks, gorgeous restaurants and city life to fascinating wildlife and nature."

For anyone considering applying to GROW, Pedersen is a strong advocate; "I promise that you won't regret it! I sure haven't!"
