Meet Jaclyn Rymuza

Magazine designer from Florida appreciates eco-friendly Stockholm.

When Jaclyn Rymuza decided to make a temporary switch from designing magazines to designing books, she was motivated by a number of factors. "I applied to the GROW program because I knew this would be a fantastic opportunity to experience new design ideas and to experience new challenges and also a whole new culture," she says.  "Overall, I wanted to be inspired!"

Rymuza, 30, has worked at Bonnier Corporation for four years, where she holds the position of associate art director at ISLANDS and SNOW magazines. She started in early February at Bonnier Fakta, where she has been working on designing cookbooks, which turns out to be a bigger change than she imagined from what she did in Florida. "Every book is unique unto itself and therefore you are continually brainstorming for different design approaches," she says. " It's the variety and individuality of these books that makes my work here exciting as well as working with such a talented and wonderful team."

One of the things she's been most impressed with is how eco-friendly things are in Stockholm. "They've taken great measures in making it easily accessible for people to recycle," says Rymuza.  "Here, at Bonnier Forlagen, you'll find hardly any paper cups or paper plates in the cabinets.  All kitchens are equipped with dishwashers and everyone is happy to take turns loading and unloading the dishwasher.  They've even dedicated a portion of the basement for the employees to recycle. I think that's fantastic."
