Merete Lind has just returned from Florida where she had been working as a GROW participant at Bonnier Corporation as production manager.
"I worked most with Sport Diver, Babytalk and Caribbean Travel+Life.," says Lind. "I handled the ads in their system, worked with the page plan and sent the magazine to the printer. I also worked for the marketing department, looking for background information for different presentaitons and proofread texts that the designers had been working with."
Now that Lind is back at Bonnierförlagen as a production manager, a great deal of her work day is taken up by the day-to-day editorial demands of book production. But what were the differences between working with books versus magazines?
"Both the number of titles and the print runs reflect the fact that the market is so much bigger in the U.S.," says Lind. "But the way people work together and the aim of producing a good finished product was completely familiar for me."
Working with magazines on the editorial side was new for Lind, although she had worked as a buyer with magazine printers before.
"One exciting thing was getting a brief look at the development of the programming for one of the digital magazines for the iPad," she says. "We're in the starting phase of this with our books in Sweden and the breathtaking speed of the development was both fascinating and a little scary at the same time."
Lind hasn't regretted a single second of her switch.
"My dream of working overseas was fulfilled in a fantastic way and the time I spent in Florida was some of the best in my whole life," she says. "To end up in Florida was the icing on the cake, when am I going to be able to wear flip-flops for six months in a row again? Of course that's counting the summer in Sweden, but still!"

hi merete! i miss you already over here at bonnier corp. you were a ray of sunshine and i loved getting to know you. i am so glad you had a good time — but a person as open and curious as you are would enjoy any situation, i think. i love the photo of you sleeveless in front of the christmas tree! that says it all. (but i have to be honest: the temp dropped to freezing here this week! a new record.) i'm glad you have good memories of us over here in florida. all the best. kathy kiely
