When it comes to watching out for the health of the Baltic sea, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is one of Finland's non-profit organizations taking the lead. The organization has a number of initiatives aimed at protecting the ecology. The creation of wetlands in coastal zones, which prevent runoff from farming entering the sea, is one major project. Preparation for a possible oil spill is another, with some 5,500 volunteers recruited already to help in the case of such an emergency. Naturally, the WWF is also heavily involved in protecting endangered species, and has been instrumental in protecting eagles.
Getting the word out about WWF and recruiting new members is key, and MTV3 in Finland not only understands the importance but has joined WWF by providing free advertising space. "We are pleased to provide the WWF with a forum for reaching the public," says Leena Mentula, communications manager at MTV3. "With our broad audience reach - we reach over 90 percent of all people living in Finland every day - we can give WWF exposure and access to the public it normally wouldn't have. We're proud to be working with WWF."
