National Antenna License for AVA in Finland

Positive changes in store for MTV Media, with new licenses including for high-definition broadcasting.

Pekka Karhuvaara, CEO for MTV Media

On Dec. 21, 2011, the Finnish Government issued three favorable decisions for MTV Media: a new national program license for TV channel AVA, a licence for MTV3 MAX HD and approval of the change of CANAL+ Series to high-definition CANAL+ Urheilu (Sport).

"The license decision for AVA is very welcome for us, as, in cable distribution only, the channel would not have been viable as an advertising-funded channel," says Pekka Karhuvaara, CEO for MTV Media. "At the same time, AVA will diversify its offering of quality programs for Finnish television viewers, with women as the main target. AVA is an excellent addition in the portfolio of tools for ad sales, supplementing the channels MTV3 and Sub. Now begins the tough map-building work and the channel will be relaunched on a date to be decided a little later.

"I'm also very pleased that we received the license for MTV3 MAX HD and the authorization to change Canal+ Series HD to high-definition Canal+ Urheilu."
