News+ Ready for Launch

News+ concept live from Bonnier from Bonnier on Vimeo.

The conditions for journalism change on a regular basis. New channels create new possibilities for storytelling and conveying the news.

Today we launch the News+ concept for the Ipad and we do it together with some of the great newspapers within the Bonnier Group: Dagens Nyheter, Dagens Industri, Sydsvenskan, Børsen and Expressen. It is the first step towards creating a totally new way of experiencing news. It has been a fascinating journey and we are all very excited.

We started up the project soon after the launch of Mag+, eight months ago. Similarly to the Mag+ development we asked ourselves: What if the newspaper was invented today - what would it look like? And we came up with a product that differs from both the traditional newspaper and the web. We see it as the third product that starts up where the physical newspaper ends. News+ combines an editor's choice and perspective with the possibilities for conversation the Internet gives. It is as timely in the evening as in the morning and lets readers filter out the din of the web and focus on the bold images and rich storytelling.

The most important principle of News+ is that we want to let our readers get closer to the news. In terms of news consumption, an intimate, touch experience where reading is a pleasure and the crystal-clear hi-resolution screen lets photography take its rightful place as an important part of the news narrative. But with closeness we also mean that we want our readers to step into the news room and be a part of the conversation. The News+ concept includes a variety of features enabling such a relation between news editors and readers.

The DN+ app will be available in the app store within days and the other papers will follow suit.

Welcome to the future of news! We are really happy with the outcome of the project and we hope you will enjoy it. We welcome any feedback with your thoughts and ideas. Looks nice but how is it much different from other newspapers that are acting in the same way. What if the newspaper was invented today. than it would not look like this i think its stil a browser displaying information. could you make the application (apps) more intelligent??? Will magazines be the same way presented, i still experience it all as a powerpoint sliding browser with some movies.

Allan - Unfortunately our site at the moment doesn't support the Vimeo embed code that works for the iPad. But you can see it directly on Vimeo at: http://www.vimeo.com/17148059.

Why, if you are developing for the iPad, do you insist on using Flash video? Dumb move.

Looks okay.
