Dagens Nyheter's unique advertising competition - DN Reklamcupen, which pits ad agencies against each other in a "playoff" during the summer in the Swedish daily - has added a new twist: students. The new DN Reklamcupen Jr expands the idea to include the four biggest Swedish communications colleges - Beckmans, Bergs, Forsbergs and Hyper Island - with students creating ads and competing against each other just as the ad agencies do, with the winner earning a wildcard slot in the original DN Reklamcupen.
"Students at the advertising schools are the creators of future advertisements, and many of them will be working with our customers already during the fall," says Kristofer Dalin, project manager for the initiative, explaining why DN Reklamcupen has expanded. "So it makes sense to teach them the power and effect you get from an ad in Dagens Nyheter."
The advertisements the students will be creating will be for their own schools, with students voting on the best ads via Facebook and then competing against one another in a semifinal and a final round. The winning team gets an ad in Dagens Nyheter and will compete with the ad agencies for a trip to New York for up to three team members.
The deadline for DN Reklamkupen Jr entries is May 18 with the competition finishing in time for the winner to compete in the original DN Reklamcupen during the summer. The winner will be chosen in August.
