Tine Lund: Cool

Our GROW ambassador in Sydney appreciates how Aussies trot out their winter wear when it's 20ºC.

"Dress to impress" has a whole new meaning in Sydney.

The weather has changed and temperatures have dropped to just below 20ºC for the past few days. The mornings, and likewise the evenings, are a bit cooler than usual, which means that the Aussie people have found all of their winter clothes and put them on for the season. I find it so amusing that they will put on hats, big scarves and winter jackets in this type of weather. Me, I wouldn't put on a little minidress at this time of year, but I'd certainly not wear a big jacket either.

I find it so interesting that while Danes will rush out into the sun in a bikini while it is only 19-20ºC, Aussie people look forward to pulling out all of their winter clothes and showing them off.

They probably think, "Finally, we get to put on our Ugg boots with wool lining, knitted scarves, North Face jackets, etc.!" Then they walk down the street like James Dean in Times Square and think they are really cool.

But I do have a lot of sympathy for Aussie people, and this tells me that I have come to the right country with some fellows that I can relate to. Back home, I'm always being teased because I'm so cold, and I won't put on proper summer clothes until we reach around 24-25ºC.

I could be wrong, but I feel very at home here in Australia.
