TV4 Acquires Rights to Handball League Home Games

The TV4 Group has secured the exclusive broadcast rights to the Swedish handball league's home games for 2011-2014. The contract, signed with the Svenska Handbollförbundet (the Swedish Handball Association), includes home matches for both the men's and women's leagues, as well as world and European championship matches between national teams.

With the acquisition, the TV4 Group strengthens its portfolio of handball broadcast rights. Prior to the acquisition, the TV Group owned broadcast rights to the world and European championship final games for both women and men, up until 2014.

"We're happy to come to an agreement about a continued long-term cooperation with Swedish handball since there is a lot of interest in both the men's and women's leagues," says Hans Pekkari, sports manager for the TV4 Group. "Thanks to the agreement, women's handball will get a higher profile in the fall."
