With 4,854 votes and the backing of jury experts, 21-year-old New Zealander Natasha Mead secured a £1,700 deal to launch her digital concept on iPad using Mag+ tablet publishing software.
MILK features six to nine new and easy-to-follow tutorials ranging in cost and time required in every issue. Taking its cue from street style as well as high fashion trends, MILK is a source of both inspiration and instruction.
The magazine beat out shortlisted entries BLACK, a home-brewery guide by American Ryan Hoback, and VINTAGE MUM, a craft and lifestyle magazine by Swedes Diana Ortsheid and Marie Stübner.
Jury members Mike Haney, Director, US; Matt Cokeley, Creative Director, US; and Jacob Nordström, Creative Director, Europe faced tough choices, but in the end MILK impressed with its focused concept and sleek, tablet-friendly design.
“It used the layered Mag+ architecture to really show off beautiful photography and the seamless integration of rich media to help deliver the content,” the jury said. “It made us all want to go out and DIY our own fashion!”
The inaugural Mag+ competition had a tremendous response of over 10,000 votes worldwide. Entries came from six countries, from New Zealand to Scandinavia, and across a range of traditional and non-traditional publishing concepts. The contest showcased all that is becoming possible in digital publishing.
