On May 28, the winning school newspapers were announced in this year's Lilla Journalistpriset - the Junior Journalist Award. The prizes were given out at the Dagens Nyheter building in Stockholm.

The winner in the print cateogry was Magazinet (Stallarholmsskolan, Strängnäs) for junior high and Spångapressen (Spånga Gymnasium) for high school. The web category was won by Käppalaposten (Käppala skola, Lidingö) and ELITe (Söderportsgymnasiet, Kristianstad). Expressens Editor-in-Chief Thomas Mattsson handed out the awards.

"It's nice for Expressen to participate and recognize young promising journalists-to-be. I gave out the prize for best newspaper for high school, and the winning entry showed good editing and prioritizing on the page. In a world of bloggers and social media, editing is important," says Mattsson.

Part of the Lilla Journalistpriset is the Ung Bild contest for images. Kristina Beije won with her picture "Bubblan" – you can see the picture and winners here.

The Lilla Journalistpriset is Sweden's biggest school newspaper contest and was founded in 2001 with the purpose of encouraging newspaper production among young journalists. The idea behind the contest is to increase interest and understanding of the craft of journalism and the pleasure of making a newspaper. Some 200 newspapers entered this year. Since the start 11 years ago, over 500 different newspapers have competed.
