	GRID Moments Highlights from GRID A look at some of the people, presentations and passion at GRID10.


	DAY 1


	Martha Stewart Martha on Martha Meet an American legend – Martha Stewart, America’s most trusted guide to stylish living. This daughter of middle-class Polish-Americans has built up a media empire complete with magazines, books and TV programs. Millions of fans rely on Martha Stewart for the best in cooking, entertaining and decorating know-how. After 30 years in the business, she has only become more influential with the public.


	Paul Frommer A Language from Outer Space Working with director James Cameron, linguist and professor Paul Frommer created a complete language for the Na’vi characters in the blockbuster film Avatar. He personally coached the actors on the exotic sounds and vocabulary to complete the effect of transporting filmgoers to another world. His language has developed a life of its own on fan websites and discussion boards – Frommer even receives fan letters written in Na’vi.


	Passionate People: Ty Sawyer Diving Ty Sawyer, Editorial Director of Bonnier Dive Group, Bonnier Corporation, was one of the Passionate People speaking at GRID this year.


	Seth Raphael High-Tech Magic: Achieving the Impossible “High-tech magician” Seth Raphael has a degree in Wonder from MIT. He performs magic using computers and iPhones – the modern-day equivalent of magic wands – combining his passions into a cutting-edge form of entertainment. He uses the newest technology to push the boundaries of what lies in the realm of possibility


	Marian Bantjes Transforming Typography Marian Bantjes’ designs for major publications, including the New York Times, WIRED and Wallpaper magazine, have made her a cult name in the design world. Her success has come from daring to be intensely personal, using custom type and elaborate ornamentation. She works internationally from her home on Bowen Island in Canada, where she also writes and teaches.


	Katrina Markoff Chocolate Stories Katrina Markoff created Vosges Haut-Chocolat to “bring the world closer to peace through chocolate.” She personally chooses every exotic spice, root, nut and flower, allowing each bite of her chocolate to tell a story about a special place in the world. A graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, Markoff has apprenticed with chefs in Europe, Asia and Australia.


	Passionate People: Jonna Bergh Wahlström Funny Status Updates Jonna Bergh Wahlström, Editor in Chief, Glamour, was one of the Passionate People speaking at GRID this year.


	Tomas Saraceno 14 Billions Argentine artist Tomas Saraceno created the most buzz of any artist at Bonniers Konsthall gallery this year with his architectural installation 14 Billions, a room-scale model of a Black Widow spider web. He has used lasers and MRI technology to research and create his art. He has even collaborated with NASA scientists. Saraceno’s pieces walk the line between art, architecture and science.


	Anders Ynnerman Around the Universe in 18 Minutes Professor Anders Ynnerman collaborated on the world’s most complete four-dimensional map of the universe. A resulting film, made in cooperation with the American Museum of Natural History, takes viewers from the Himalayas through the Earth’s atmosphere into space and beyond our galaxy. It has received more than 5 million views on YouTube. Ynnerman has received awards for his contributions in the visualization of real-time data.


	Robert Gupta Healing with Passion and a Violin A musical prodigy and a student of medicine, violinist Robert Gupta firmly believes in the superior healing power of music. He joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the age of 19, and made his solo debut at age 11, with the Israel Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta. Gupta teaches violin to Nathaniel Ayers, the gifted schizophrenic musician played by Oscar-award winner Jamie Foxx in the film The Soloist.

	DAY 2


	Jill Sobule A Good Life L.A.-based singer-songwriter Jill Sobule writes songs that combine social and political themes with catchy lyrics and upbeat melodies. She was one of the first artists to raise funds by appealing to her fans, rewarding their investments with personal thanks and gifts, from T-shirts to private concerts in their living rooms. She released her seventh studio album California Years on her own record label in 2009.


	Elizabeth Gilbert Am I Done Writing? It was her own divorce that led Elizabeth Gilbert, the versatile magazine writer, novelist, and short-story author, to write about a woman's search for everything that can bring happiness. Her 2006 memoir Eat Pray Love became a smash hit, selling 7 million copies worldwide. She’s been listed by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, and is now portrayed by Julia Roberts in the film adaptation of her story. Her new book, Committed, is about daring to get married again. Here, GRID Curator Stefan Mehr interviews Elizabeth Gilbert after her talk.


	Margaret Stewart What the World is Watching and Why Margaret Stewart manages the User Experience team for YouTube, leading the company’s overall design and user research efforts. In the past 15 years, she has managed the usability design of five websites ranked among the top 10 most-visited in the world, including Google Search. She has also consulted with the New York Times, Time-Warner and Scholastic.


	Kristin Cohen Solar House Kristin Cohen, Garden Design publisher, Bonnier Corporation, was one of the Passionate People speaking at GRID this year.


	Rick Hodes The Crooked Made Straight A Jewish-American doctor caring for the needy at Mother Teresa’s clinic in Ethiopia, Rick Hodes is now the subject of a new documentary and book. His quiet heroism, lobbying for children with spinal tuberculosis, is fueled by faith and empathy. In his pursuit to end suffering, Rick Hodes has become an adoptive father to five children and an unofficial father to many more.

	Passionate People: Daniel Oertel & Nina Åkerberg Poetry Slam Daniel Oertel, Editorial Director of Nonfiction Paperback, Ullstein Buchverlage and Nina Åkerberg, reporter at Dagens Industri, was two of the passionte People speaking at GRID this year.


	Henrik Fexeus Mind Wide Open Mind reader and psychological illusionist Henrik Fexeus has captivated Swedish fans with his books and TV program Brainstorm, about the secrets of nonverbal communication. He has studied magic, hypnosis, and psychology, challenging sold-out audiences with his live performance, “Circus of the Mind.”


	Alec Ross 21st Century Statecraft Alec Ross is Senior Adviser on Innovation to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a role created especially for him by the Obama administration. An architect of Obama’s digital campaigning in the 2008 presidential election, Ross is now re-imagining diplomacy through the innovative use of social media.
